South Africa beat Australia in the 2nd ODI of the 3-match series, to take an unassailable 2-0 lead. The match held at the Great Barrier Reef Arena, Mackay, saw Lungi Ngidi be South Africa’s match-winner. Ngidi claimed 5/42 in 8.4 overs as the Aussies were folded for 193 in 37.4 overs while trying to chase a target of 278.
Earlier, the Proteas scored 277 in 49.1 overs. Fifties from Matthew Breetzke and Tristan Stubbs helped South Africa get to a decent score in Mackay. Chasing 278, Ngidi got Marnus Labuschagne early on (7/2). Australia were 38/3 at one stage before a 67-run stand between Cameron Green and Josh Inglis steadied the ship. Senuran Muthusamy dismissed Green before Nandre Burger got Alex Carey (133/5).
Ngidi then broke a 42-run stand by dismissing Aaron Hardie. Nine runs later, half-centurion Inglis was sent back by the pacer. His final two wickets were Xavier Bartlett and Adam Zampa.
With this spell of 5/42, Ngidi recorded his 2nd five-wicket haul versus the Aussies in ODIs. The right-arm pacer, who has 110 ODI scalps, has clocked both of his ODI fifers against Australia. As per Cricbuzz, Ngidi has become the 4th bowler in ODIs to take multiple five-wicket hauls in ODI cricket, joining Curtly Ambrose, Shane Bond (3 each) and Trent Boult (2).
