India’s ace shooter Manu Bhaker showcased her trademark composure to clinch a bronze medal in the women’s 10m air pistol at the Asian Shooting Championship on Tuesday.
The double Olympic medallist extended her remarkable run at continental events, adding a ninth medal to her career tally.
Strong Show in Individual Event
Bhaker entered the final after placing third in qualification with 584 points. In the medal round, she registered 219.7 to finish behind China’s Qianke Ma, who struck gold with 243.2, and South Korea’s Jiin Yang, who claimed silver with 241.6.
Teammates Suruchi Singh, a triple World Cup gold medallist this season, narrowly missed the cut after finishing 12th, while Palak ended 17th.
Bronze in Women’s Team Competition
Alongside Suruchi and Palak, Bhaker also helped India secure bronze in the team event. The trio posted a combined score of 1,730 to seal the third spot on the podium, continuing India’s consistent presence in the team standings.
Men’s Team Secures Silver
On the opening day of the tournament, the Indian men’s 10m air pistol team, featuring Anmol Jain, Aditya Malra and Asian Games gold medallist Saurabh Chaudhary, won silver with a total of 1,735. China took gold with 1,744 points.
Individually, Anmol progressed to the final in seventh place but finished sixth with 155.1 points, while Malra and Chaudhary placed 13th and 21st respectively.
India’s Biggest Contingent in Action
India has sent its largest-ever contingent of 182 shooters across senior, junior and youth categories for this edition. The competition offers 58 medal events, including 46 individual and 12 mixed team categories.
In the previous edition at Changwon, India had collected six gold, eight silver and five bronze medals to finish third overall, behind China and South Korea.
