Chennai Grand Masters Set for December Return

The third edition of the Chennai Grand Masters will take place from December 5 to 15, 2025, at the Leela Palace Hotel, bringing together top chess players from around the world in India’s only Classical Round Robin tournament.

Strong International Line-Up

This year’s field features reigning champion GM Arjun Erigaisi alongside elite competitors such as former world champion GM Viswanathan Anand, American GM Levon Aronian, Russian GM Ian Nepomniachtchi, French GM Alireza Firouzja, and Armenian GM Gabriel Sargissian. The presence of multiple top-20 players ensures an intense battle for the title.

Special Significance for Indian Chess

The tournament remains India’s sole Classical Round Robin event, offering home fans a rare chance to watch world-class chess unfold over 10 days. Organisers said the 2025 edition aims to continue its tradition of combining sporting excellence with a celebration of Chennai’s deep chess culture.

Tournament Schedule

Play begins on December 5 with the final round on December 15. All games will follow classical time controls, with rest days scheduled in between to ensure top-level performance from participants. Matches will be open to spectators, and live streaming will be available for global audiences.
