Is Paula Badosa’s US Open Dream Over? Spaniard Withdraws Due to Persistent Back Injury

New York : Spain’s Paula Badosa, once ranked world No. 2, has officially withdrawn from the 2025 US Open, citing ongoing back problems that have haunted her since Wimbledon. The 27-year-old, currently ranked No. 12, last competed at Wimbledon in a tough first-round defeat. There, she revealed a painful tear in her psoas muscle—the key muscle connecting the lower back to the leg—adding to her chronic lower back issues and prompting serious concerns about her career longevity.

The U.S. Tennis Association confirmed her withdrawal on August 8. Badosa will also miss the tournament’s mixed doubles draw, reflecting how debilitating her injuries have become. Swiss player Jil Teichmann will take her spot in the main singles draw at this year’s final Grand Slam event, which kicks off on August 24 in New York.

Despite the setback, Badosa shared an inspiring message on social media, reflecting on her struggles not just with injury but with failure itself. She spoke candidly about how those hardships have strengthened her resilience and shaped her growth both on and off the court, signaling the heart of a fighter who refuses to give up easily.

For Badosa, this pause from competition might be more than a withdrawal—it could be a moment of reckoning for her future in professional tennis. Fans around the world will be watching closely, hoping for her full recovery and eventual return to form.

This withdrawal marks another twist in the ongoing saga of a talented player fighting through physical limits while chasing Grand Slam glory.
