ENG Vs IND 5th Test: Full List Of Major Records Broken At The Oval

London, UK- The fifth and final Test between India and England concluded on Monday, August 4, with India securing a thrilling six-run victory at The Oval. Ollie Pope’s men couldn’t chase down the 374-run target. With India’s win, the 2025 edition of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series ended in a 2-2 draw. Players from both teams broke multiple batting, bowling, and fielding records throughout the match and the series.

Here’s a look at major records broken during the 5th India-England Test at The Oval:

  • India’s Narrowest Test Win: The six-run win is India’s narrowest victory by runs in Test cricket, surpassing their previous record of a 13-run win against Australia in 2004.
  • Mohammed Siraj’s Bowling Feats:
    • Took nine English batters’ wickets in the fifth Test (4 in 1st innings, 5 in 2nd).
    • Extended his series tally to 23 wickets, equaling Jasprit Bumrah’s record for most wickets by an Indian in a Test series played in England.
    • Became the first Asian bowler to take at least four wickets seven times in an innings of Test matches played in England.
  • Joe Root’s Batting Dominance:
    • Became the first player to score 6,000 runs in the World Test Championship.
    • Is the first player to score 500+ runs in a Test series against India three times.
    • Is the first player to score 24 centuries in home Tests.
    • Became only the second batter after Don Bradman to score 2,000+ runs in home Tests against one team (India).
    • Is the first English batter to score 13 Test centuries against one team.
    • With 7,329 runs in 84 home Tests, he now has more home Test runs than Sachin Tendulkar.
  • Shubman Gill’s Captaincy and Runs:
    • Broke Graham Gooch’s record for most runs (752) in a Test series between India and England, finishing with 754 runs.
    • Broke Sunil Gavaskar’s record for most runs (732) in a Test series as India captain.
  • Ravindra Jadeja’s All-Round Performance:
    • Scored 53 runs in the second innings, giving him six 50+ scores in the series, a first for an India-England Test series.
  • India’s Team Batting Record:
    • India’s total of 3,809 runs in the five-match series is a record for the most runs by any team in a five-match Test series.
  • Indian Batting Depth: For the first time in history, three Indian batters (Gill, Rahul, Jadeja) scored over 500 runs in a single Test series.
  • Crawley and Duckett’s Opening Records:
    • Recorded nine 50+ opening partnerships against India in Tests, surpassing Desmond Haynes and Gordon Greenidge.
    • Became the second opening pair in the world after Haynes and Greenidge to add more than 1,000 runs as openers in Tests against India.
  • Akash Deep’s Nightwatchman Fifty: Scored 66 runs in the second innings as nightwatchman, becoming the third Indian to score a fifty in that role.
