Animesh Kujur Cruises Into 200m Semifinals At World University Games 2025

Chengdu : India’s promising sprinter Animesh Kujur began his World University Games 2025 campaign in style, securing a smooth qualification to the Men’s 200m semifinals with a commanding win in his opening heat. The 21-year-old clocked a time of 21.16 seconds in Heat 1, comfortably earning a place in the next round.

Strong Start In Chengdu

Held in the Chinese city of Chengdu, the World University Games bring together top university athletes from around the world. Kujur, representing India, was quick off the blocks and maintained a steady lead throughout the race. His composed run ensured he finished first, without needing to push to his maximum effort.

Under the qualification rules, the top three finishers from each heat automatically advance, along with the next three fastest overall. Kujur’s dominant performance left no doubt about his spot in the semifinals.

Eyes On The Final

With the semifinals approaching, Kujur is expected to face stronger competition. However, his performance in the heats suggests he is in excellent form and ready to challenge for a place in the final.

Speaking after the race, Kujur said, “I felt relaxed going into the race. The goal was to qualify comfortably and save energy for the next rounds. I’m happy with the time and looking forward to the semifinal.”

Boost For Indian Athletics

Kujur’s qualification is an early highlight for the Indian athletics contingent at the Games. As one of the country’s most promising young sprinters, his progress is being closely followed by fans and experts alike.

With growing support for athletics in India and improved training programs at the grassroots and university levels, performances like Kujur’s reflect a positive shift in the country’s sprinting ambitions on the international stage.

What’s Next

The Men’s 200m semifinals are scheduled to take place later this week. Should Kujur continue his form, a spot in the final could be within reach — and with it, a shot at the podium.
