Bhubaneswar : The Indian cricket team has added Anshul Kamboj, a 24-year-old fast bowler from Haryana, to its Test squad as a backup for the injured Arshdeep Singh and Akash Deep. The move comes ahead of the crucial fourth Test against England at Old Trafford, Manchester, with the series currently in England’s favor, 2-1.
Arshdeep Singh suffered a deep cut on his bowling hand during a training session and required stitches, making his participation in the next match highly unlikely. Meanwhile, Akash Deep is struggling with a groin niggle and may also miss the match.
Kamboj’s selection is based on his strong recent performance:
He has taken 79 wickets in 24 first-class matches.
In the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy, he took 34 wickets in six games at an impressive average and economy rate.
He was recently part of India A’s tour of England, where he picked up five wickets in two unofficial Tests and even scored a half-century.Kamboj played for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025, claiming eight wickets in eight matches.
With both frontline pacers injured, Kamboj now has a chance to make his Test debut and bolster India’s fast-bowling attack in a must-win situation.
