London : Jasprit Bumrah broke Kapil Dev’s prestigious record for the most five-wicket hauls by an Indian bowler in Test matches played away from home. Bumrah achieved his 13th five-wicket haul away from home, surpassing Kapil Dev’s previous record of 12. This milestone came during the third Test against England at Lord’s, where Bumrah delivered an outstanding spell, including a burst of three wickets in seven balls, which was instrumental in bowling England out for 387.
Despite this significant achievement, Bumrah refused to celebrate his five-wicket haul. He was notably reluctant to even raise his hand with the ball—a customary gesture for such milestones. Observing this, his teammate Mohammed Siraj playfully and forcefully lifted Bumrah’s hand for the crowd, prompting applause for the No. 1-ranked bowler.
Bumrah’s record:
13 five-wicket hauls away from home
Surpassed Kapil Dev’s 12
Achieved in just 35 away Tests, compared to Kapil’s 66 . This feat further cements Bumrah’s reputation as one of India’s greatest fast bowlers in overseas conditions
