VARI, GREECE – Animesh Kujur has officially set a new Indian national record in the men’s 100m sprint, clocking an impressive 10.18 seconds to win Final B at the Dromia International Sprint and Relays Meeting 2025 in Vari, Greece, on Saturday. This outstanding performance at the Municipal Stadium of Vari K Baglatzis shaved 0.02 seconds off the previous record of 10.20s, held by Gurindervir Singh since March. Kujur, 22, also significantly improved his personal best of 10.27s.
While he won Final B ahead of Greece’s Sotírios Garaggánis (10.23s) and Finland’s Samuli Samuelsson (10.28s), his time placed him third overall in the event. South Africa’s Benjamin Richardson took first place with 10.01s, followed by Oman’s Ali Anwar Al-Balushi with 10.12s. Kujur’s stellar year was recently recognized with the SSI Karna Award for Best Athlete of the Year by Sports Science India, further cementing his status as a rising star in Indian athletics.
Kujur’s Growing List of Records
This isn’t Kujur’s first national record. The Odisha-born runner already holds the men’s 200m Indian national record with a time of 20.32 seconds, which earned him a bronze medal at the Asian Athletics Championships 2025 in Gumi, Republic of Korea, earlier this year. He was also part of the Indian men’s 4x100m quartet that set a national record of 38.69s at the National Relay Carnival 2025 in Chandigarh, alongside Gurindervir, Manikanta Hoblidhar, and Amlan Borgohain.
