Kidambi Srikanth has advanced to the Round of 16 at the Canada Open 2025, a BWF World Tour Super 300 event. He overcame fellow Indian Priyanshu Rajawat in a hard-fought first-round match, winning 18-21, 21-19, 21-14 in 53 minutes, despite Priyanshu, the seventh seed, taking the first game. Srikanth is now set to face Wang Po-Wei of Chinese Taipei in the next round.
In other men’s singles action, Ayush Shetty, who recently won the US Open, was defeated by compatriot Sankar Muthusamy Subramanian with scores of 23-21, 21-12. Sankar will next play Huang Yu Kai from Chinese Taipei for a spot in the quarterfinals.
The top-seeded Indian mixed doubles pair of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto were knocked out, losing 21-15, 21-19 to Spain’s Ruben Garcia and Lucia Rodriguez.
In women’s singles, Shriyanshi Valishetty pulled off an upset, beating seventh-seeded Ukrainian Polina Buhrova 21-18, 22-20. She will now face Karupathevan Letshanaa of Malaysia in the second round. Unfortunately, Tanya Hemanth couldn’t close out her match, losing 15-21, 24-22, 21-18 to third-seed Sung Shuo Yun of Chinese Taipei after failing to convert two match points. Ira Sharma also exited the tournament, defeated 21-9, 21-14 by Kaloyana Nalbantova of Bulgaria.
