Young shuttlers from Arunachal Pradesh, Tamin Yania and Tagu Tajing, carved out a memorable campaign as they captured a bronze medal at the All India Sub-Junior (U15) Ranking Badminton Tournament, which concluded recently in Bahadurgarh, Haryana. The week-long event drew some of the most promising junior players from across India, with intense competition unfolding across all categories. Despite facing seasoned opponents who train in established academies in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Delhi, the Arunachal duo held their nerve and displayed sharp reflexes and strategic maturity beyond their years. They marched into the semifinals with a string of straight-game victories, including an eye-catching upset over the second-seeded pair in the quarterfinals. Though they narrowly lost a hard-fought semifinal clash, their bronze medal finish is historic, marking the first time a boys’ doubles team from Arunachal Pradesh has reached the podium at this level.
Officials of the Arunachal State Badminton Association hailed the achievement as a breakthrough moment. “This medal is the result of dedicated training, discipline, and the relentless spirit of our players,” said an association spokesperson. The success also underscores the impact of grassroots development and better training facilities provided by the state’s sports department. Both Tamin and Tagu have been training under coach Hage Ampa, who praised their consistency and teamwork throughout the tournament. The young duo is expected to climb significantly in the national rankings after this performance, paving the way for future selections in national camps and international exposure trips.
As they return home to a warm welcome, the two shuttlers remain focused on their next targets: the upcoming National Sub-Junior Championships and more ranking events in the year ahead. Their success has already ignited fresh enthusiasm among young badminton players across Arunachal Pradesh, proving that talent, when nurtured with commitment and support, can overcome any hurdle.
