The Indian junior women’s hockey team continued their impressive run in Europe with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Belgium on Tuesday at the Hockey Center of Excellence in Antwerp.
After a goalless first half where both teams had their chances but couldn’t find the net, India finally broke through in the 35th minute. Lalthantluangi stepped up and calmly converted a penalty stroke to give India the lead.
Belgium hit back in the final quarter with a well-taken field goal by Van Hellemont in the 48th minute. But India didn’t take long to respond — just two minutes later, Geeta Yadav found the back of the net to put India ahead once again.
In the final 10 minutes, the Indian defense held firm, keeping Belgium at bay to seal another victory on their tour.
With two consecutive wins, the Indian team will now gear up for their third and final clash against Belgium on June 12.
