Can Shreyas Iyer’s masterclass finally end PBKS’s trophy drought?

After years of heartbreak, rebuilding phases, and playoff letdowns, the Punjab Kings have roared into the IPL final once again — and they’ve done it in style. In Qualifier 2, under the floodlights and the weight of expectations, they pulled off a stunning chase of 204 to book a place in the grand finale. At the heart of that triumph stood their captain — Shreyas Iyer — cool, composed, and clutch when it mattered most.

From Chaos to Control: PBKS’s Chase of Character

Punjab’s journey to the final wasn’t built on a single innings — it was a full-team effort. But the chase began with early intent. Prabhsimran Singh provided the fireworks up front, giving PBKS the brisk start they needed. Though wickets tumbled at intervals, the scoreboard kept ticking.

And then came the anchor.

Iyer’s Calm in a Storm

Walking in during a tricky phase, Shreyas Iyer took his time early on. He read the pitch, soaked in the pressure, and slowly began to assert his authority. Against quality spin and relentless pace, Iyer found gaps, rotated strike, and punished the bad balls. His innings was a masterclass in calculated aggression.

He reached his fifty with a punch through cover — symbolic of the control he had over his game. But it was what followed that defined his knock. With 45 needed off 24 balls, Iyer accelerated without panic. Two massive sixes off the spinners flipped the momentum and silenced the opposition.

Playing Through the Pain

What made the innings even more special was Iyer battling visible discomfort in the closing stages. With cramps setting in, he could barely run. Yet, he stood his ground, picking his moments to finish the job — ending unbeaten on 87\* (55) and soaking in the applause as his team crossed the finish line.

Bowling & Belief: The Other Half of the Story

Earlier, PBKS’s bowling unit had a mixed day. While Rabada and Arshdeep struggled at times, they held their nerve at the death, keeping the opposition to a par total of 204. It was the clarity of roles and calm heads that allowed Punjab to restrict the damage.

One Game Away from Glory

This win marks PBKS’s *first final appearance since 2014*. Back then, they fell agonizingly short. This time, with a stable core, fearless young talents, and a captain who knows how to soak pressure, the belief is real.

Can Shreyas Iyer’s brilliance finally deliver Punjab their first IPL trophy? If this performance is anything to go by, they’re no longer the underdogs — they’re contenders with purpose.
